Proyecto Ascender

ASCENDER continues to advance its use cases, with the installation of new cameras and air quality sensors

27 de May de 2025

The ASCENDER project is developing three use cases to showcase the capabilities of its architecture and facilitate the development, deployment, and execution of advanced data analytics services with real socioeconomic and scientific value.

To do this, the developed technology is validated through two pilots located in the city of Barcelona, where ASCENDER has installed different sensors and cameras. The main objective of these two pilots is to extract detailed information about the traffic and the vehicle emissions, to improve the granularity and accuracy of air quality models.

In this way, and in collaboration with AIR-URBAN Project -also developed by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center-, two cameras have been installed in the Eixample area of Barcelona, near to the air quality station of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

The information extracted from the cameras will be verified with the data obtained through the air quality sensors installed in the same area, facilitating a more effective validation and calibration of the models.

Besides, in the framework of the smart mobility use case, the data obtained by the cameras will also allow the extraction of key knowledge, to generate alerts, monitoring and create statistics.

The ASCENDER project of the UNICO I+D Cloud program is funded by the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Administration and by the European Union – NextGenerationEU, within the framework of the PRTR and the MRR.
