Proyecto Ascender

Smart City Expo World Congress 2024

5 - 7 November 2024

Barcelona, Spain

ASCENDER project will be at the Smart City Expo World Congress 2024, one of the largest and most influential events for cities in the field of urban innovation. Every year, leaders from international companies, governments and organizations participate in this congress to learn about the latest developments in urban solutions and make cities and territories better places to live.

In this edition, ASCENDER will co-host a break-out session together with the EXTRACT project. Both projects, coordinated by Dr. Eduardo Quiñones – senior researcher at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center – will show how urban digital twins, predictive analysis and AI-based technologies developed within the framework of these projects offer next-generation solutions that can help cities make data-driven decisions.

To do so, Dr. Quiñones will be accompanied by two urban professionals: Marc Montlleó, head of Environment, Energy and Data Area at Barcelona Regional, and Dr. Enrico Gavagnin, city councillor from the Metropolitan City of Venice – a partner of the EXTRACT project. Both will explain how the use of AI and Big Data technologies can help administrations make better data-driven decisions to respond to the most urgent urban needs, such as mobility and crisis management.

Challenges such as those faced by the Italian city of Venice in terms of crisis management and how administrations respond to them, through the technology developed by the EXTRACT project, will be a key point of the session offered at the congress, as well as the management of sustainable mobility in the city of Barcelona and the importance of predicting, monitoring and planning it, thanks to the technology of the ASCENDER project.

All this will be shown in the break-out session on November 5, at 9.45 am at the Orange Agora of the SCEWC. More information here.
